destroying the pawn shield

The idea
The pawns hiding the king are blown away by a piece sacrifice. The king is left bare and falls under the fire of long-range pieces.
It does not matter which wing the king is on or which way he castled. Only one thing matters: the shield in front of him has to disappear.
How it looks
The queen takes a pawn next to the king with check. Only the king defends it, so he has to take the queen himself — there is nobody else. He steps out of cover right onto the line where a rook stands behind your bishop.
The bishop steps aside, opening the rook's line, and at the same time takes away the king's escape squares. The discovered check is mate. Giving up the queen is no loss here: without its pawn shield the king is lost.
How to spot it
Count your forces first. This tactic almost never works alone: at least two of your pieces must be brought up to the breakthrough point, or the sacrifice does not pay off.
Strike the square defended only by the king himself. Then the capture is forced and the king has to come out.
Often confused with
An ordinary hope-for-the-best sacrifice. The difference is preparation: if you do not have enough attackers, it is not a tactic but a present.
